Committed to reading


Target has teamed up with a number of notable organizations, including the ALA, to help encourage children and their families to read.  By 2015, the company pledges to donate 500 million dollars to promote literacy throughout the country.  Not only can individuals sign a pledge to read to a child, but the corporation also provides grant money (up to $2,000 dollars) to support literacy development initiatives in schools and libraries.  I encourage you all to check out the site, and then pass the information on to your patrons and friends.

I was able to get a Target grant for literacy a few years ago. The application process was relatively easy. At first Target turned down our library for the grant, then sent me the check a few days later. Still don't understand that one...
