Update on CPSIA (Lead in Books) Conflict

Here's what you need to know, pared down to the important bits:
  • The final rule on the CPSIA issue was released this week.
  • The ruling states that libraries are not required to check books for lead.
  • An official statement concerning libraries will be released in early September.
  • If a library knows of a book containing lead, remove it.  You have the option to keep it in your collection, if you must, by making it non-circulating. Please share the title with the ALA Washington Office so it can alert other libraries.
