PALA Best Practices Awards

And the Oscar goes to...

As seems to be the case every year, libraries in Allegheny County have swept this year's PaLA's Best Practices Awards. Kudos to:
  • Bethel Park Library for their Ready for Kindergarten Program: from September through May, the library offers families a 'mini-preschool' where children can get a feel for what kindergarten's going to be like. Parents are always invited to say and the program saw 28 families participate last year and have 36 registered already for this coming fall!
  • Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh - Hazelwood Library for their It's Real Learning Program: "Infants Teens Stories Reading Education and Libraries" is a program designed for teen parents that emphasizes the importance of early literacy with some seriously creative tools!
  • Mt. Lebanon Public Library for their Fun on a Sunday Program: a 6-week program during the gray Sundays of January and February that puts the fun back into winter with crafts, puppets, singing, music and other festive activities!
  • Sewickley Public Library for their Just Say Hola Program: a dynamic Spanish storytime with books, songs, fingerplays, games and activities that exposes little ones to other cultures and languages!
  • Community Library of Allegheny Valley for their Growing Friendships Program: On the coattails of the 2008 One Book Every Young Child effort (Up, Down and Around,) this program partnered children with residents of a local personal care home and both children and seniors bonded over a fun gardening activity!
Congratulations! You all rock!
